Tom Chase, Director of Mission Builders  and  Arline Chase

Tom and Arline continue to be excited about building faith communities while building structures. “One of our greatest joys is seeing the spiritual growth that takes place as a congregation comes together to take on what may initially seem like an overwhelming task.”

Carl Larson, who was pastor at Bethel Lutheran in Little Falls, Minnesota, during their construction, remembers how Tom and Arline energized the congregation when they managed the project. “Together, they led the congregation to do something that some thought impossible, always leading us forward in faith, always sharing the Gospel through their word and deed. . . from the prayers that were said at the beginning of each work day, to the devotions shared at the work breaks, to the discussions shared during the worship service on Sunday mornings . . .”

Tom now utilizes the computer, telephone, and pen, rather than a hammer, as he provides direction to the Mission Builders program and interacts with Mission Builders construction managers across the ELCA. The Chases enjoy being part of a wonderful group of Christians who put their faith into action. Tom loves his work and sees it as “Christian ministry.”

Since its beginnings in 1987, Mission Builders has assisted over 140 congregations with their building programs.
