Founded in 1860 by Swedish university graduates who immigrated to the United States, Augustana now has an enrollment of 2,200 men and women and a faculty of more than 160.


The college offers a Liberal Arts curriculum highlighted by excellent academic and pre-professional programs. Extensive internship, foreign study, and Honors programs compliment the classroom experience. Augustana College ranks among the top 10 percent of all colleges and universities based on the number of graduates who go on to earn doctorate degrees. About one-third of our graduates work toward an advanced degree immediately after graduation, and more than two-thirds do so eventually.

Students at Augustana have more than 150 extracurricular clubs and organizations available. These include social, religious, political, performing, and recreational groups and leadership opportunities in student government, departmental and professional organizations, honorary societies, service organizations, and fraternities and sororities. For those athletically minded, there are 21 varsity sports, 7 club sports, and an extensive intramural program to choose from.
