Roanoke College is located in the small town of Salem, adjacent to the city of Roanoke (total area population is 230,000). Although small compared to some cities, Roanoke provides an urban center within rural Virginia. The area is home to two major shopping malls, four major cinemas, the Mill Mountain Theatre and three minor league sports teams. Within minutes, you can be hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Kayaking, rock climbing and skiing aren’t much farther.
