Wittenberg University, Springfiled, OhioAbout Wittenberg University
At Wittenberg’s University’s, our motto, “Having Light We Pass It On To Others,” describes the true essence of our nationally ranked university. According to the Oxford EnglishWittenberg University Dictionary, the definition of “Light” is Energy Made Visible, and you will find nothing short of visible energy in the form of our students, faculty, staff and alumni. They are all doing something that we like to call, “passing it on.”

About our Students, Faculty and Alumni
Wittenberg students are undeniably bright. They are national Merit Scholars, Lutheran Scholars and Academic All-Americans (not to mention rising theater stars, modern dance majors, bio-chemists, and writers). Our professors, however, just might be the most brilliant part of Witt. In addition to holding the highest degree in their fields, Wittenberg faculty have earned Fulbright awards and have claimed “Ohio Professor of the Year” honors more than any other college or university in the state.

Witt students come from 40 states and 36 countries, and the professors wouldn’t be anywhere else. They’re drawn to the amazing energy that permeates this campus. They love being “in the light” (chances are, you will too).

At some point during your four years here, the Witt light will likely send you all around the globe. Students regularly study abroad in such cities as Stockholm, Beijing, Madrid, Berlin and Perth. They also get amazing international business experience through internships from Paris to Vienna – even at Prudential-Bache Securities in Hong Kong.

And they have ample opportunity for community service overseas. In recent years, Witt students have traveled to the African Kingdom of Lesotho to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

As for our alumni? You’ll find them on almost every continent (in all 50 states and 60 some odd countries), leading dazzling lives as doctors, diplomats, ministers, artists, educators and more.

Athletics
The Witt energy is quite infectious. Want to see it spread? Just sit in the stands during any home game. Of course, it’s always easy to cheer for the Tigers – our cats have more than a century of glorious athletics history. Witt fields 23 varsity intercollegiate teams – two are among the top Division III teams in the country. More recently, they’ve won national championships in football and basketball and have been in the top four in the NCAC each of the last 10 years. But the competitive fever doesn’t end with the varsity. A full 70 percent of Witt students also play club and intramural sports.

Student Organizations
Clearly, the Witt energy is everywhere – and our students are passing it on through Greek life, honor societies and social awareness groups, as well as organizations such as Amnesty International, Campus Greens and the Model United Nations. We have more than 125 student organizations and a deep commitment to the local community. In fact, the majority of our students actually belong to more than one group. And an astonishing number lend their light to communities right here in Springfield, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, teaching kids how to read through programs like Head Start and coaching at the YMCA (to name just a few).

Pass It On
The Witt light. You’ll sense it the moment you step on campus – the energy, the passion, the oooomph in the atmosphere. Give it a chance, and it will infect you. Inspire you. Enlighten you. And never let you go. (Pretty soon, you’ll be passing it on to others.) Sign-up online to visit our idyllic campus and learn more about how our light shines.
