Southern Seminary was founded in 1830 and is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The seminary offers the M.Div., M.A.R., and S.T.M. degrees and cooperates with the University of South Carolina in offering the M.A. degree in religious studies. The D.Min. degree is offered in cooperation with the seminaries of the Eastern Cluster. The work of the seminary is characterized by strong emphasis upon formation for ministry in the parish and an effective blending of scholarship with professional preparation.
