Lutheran Doctoral Candidates in Theological Disciplines
A “Directory of Lutheran Doctoral Candidates in Theological Disciplines” is maintained by the Vocation and Education unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. For the purposes of the directory, "theological disciplines" is defined as a field of expertise that might be used in a Lutheran theological seminary or college; "doctoral candidates" refers to students currently enrolled in academic doctoral degree programs (typically the Ph.D., Th.D. or Ed.D).
ELCA members currently enrolled in these programs are invited to complete, submit and regularly update a form for the directory. The directory is posted on the ELCA website; it is annually distributed in printed form to ELCA and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada seminaries, colleges and universities, churchwide unit executives, and ELCA synodical bishops.
The directory has three purposes:
- To assist seminaries and colleges in their processes of faculty recruitment;
- To bring qualified candidates to the attention of other potential employers;
- To enable the appropriate churchwide units to monitor the supply of potential faculty in various fields, to channel scholarship funds strategically, and to identify persons who may bring important expertise to churchwide projects and programs.
The directory is not an exhaustive listing since it contains the names and information only of those students who choose to submit a form.
Submitting your information for the directory
If you are applying for a grant through the EGP program, you can submit directory information through the same form. If you are not applying for a grant, download the directory form here.
