Military Chaplains

Four chaplains pose for a picture at Combat Out-Post (COP) Penich in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. A cross-section of religious tradition: a Southern Baptist, a Lutheran, a Churches of Christ pastor and a Romanian Orthodox priest, these chaplains represent the pluralistic environment for military ministry.

Serving as a military chaplain is a specialized ministry. It demands physical fitness as well as mental and spiritual fitness from those who wish to serve their Lord in this unique environment as an ELCA chaplain. In addition, each service goes about the business of organizing for ministry differently. ELCA chaplains are endorsed through the ELCA's Bureau for Federal Chaplaincy Ministries. If you are interested in this form of service, we encourage you to contact the Bureau for Federal Chaplaincy Ministries office at 1-202/417-3692 or send us an e-mail.
