Maritime Ministry

Lutheran Advocates for Maritime Mission (LAMM) is a nonprofit organization that:

  • Facilitates Lutheran participation in seafaring ministry in North American seaports.
  • Promotes awareness and support for such ministry at the three expressions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and other Lutheran church bodies and institutions.
  • Enlists and empowers God’s loving, caring people to carry out Christ’s great commission and great commandment within the maritime world.

LAMM seeks to fulfill this mission by facilitating Lutheran participation in ecumenical and holistic ministries of witness and service among the people of the sea.

Lutheran Advocates for Maritime Mission is an independent Lutheran organization related to the ELCA through the Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission unit. Since 2001, LAMM has received ministry grants from the churchwide organization totaling more than $180,000.
