The
Interim Period, for a congregation, is the time between two regularly-called pastors.
An Interim Pastor serves the congregation during the Interim Period.
An Intentional Interim Pastor is an Interim Pastor who has received specialized training in the best use of the Interim Period for the benefit of the congregation.
The Interim Ministry Association of the ELCA is a voluntary association of ELCA Interim Pastors and other rostered leaders who are committed to fostering the practice of Intentional Interim Ministry. As an organization, IMA-ELCA seeks to improve all types of Interim Ministry within the ELCA, by promoting the best practices of Interim Ministry and providing education and training for Intentional Interim Pastors.
