Pool Activities

Creation for Kids in Church Camps

Often, groups come back to camp after a hot day of paddling or climbing, and all they want to do is hop in the pool to cool off. For that reason, I always have a few nature games that I can lead for groups in the pool. I find that they work much better if I lead them from outside the pool, rather than in the pool with the group. While I always like to participate directly in the games, I have a much harder time getting attention and explaining games if I am in the pool. Furthermore, I find that the campers focus a great deal better if they have 15 minutes of free swim before you introduce any nature games.

Be sure to check about the swimming ability of the campers before beginning these games. Tailor your games so that all of the campers feel safe and are able to participate fully in the activities. If you are leading the games, you should not double as the lifeguard.
