8.3.2009:  LWF Youth Internship 2010
The LWF is open to receiving intern (ages 18-30) to work in its Geneva secretariat from February – November 2010. The Internship Program provides an international experience to young adults so that they may be better equipped to contribute to the life and work of the church from a global perspective.  Click link for more information including application, guidelines and announcement.

7.30.2009:  LWF 2008 Annual Report is Published  ...
Produced in July 2009 with the theme “A Reconciling Communion,” the 2008 Annual Report highlights LWF’s work through its Geneva Secretariat units and field offices.
The 36-page full color brochure includes focuses on food security, sustainability, healing and reconciliation, communion as a gift and task, and preparations for the 2010 LWF Eleventh Assembly, with the theme “Give Us Today Our Daily Bread.”

5.7.2009:  Call for Lutheran Communion Solidarity with Communities Affected by Climate Change
A group of theologians, ethicists, anthropologists and staff working on adaptation and mitigation measures related to climate change, are calling for the Lutheran communion’s global solidarity with vulnerable communities that are acting to address the impact of climate change.

4.13-19.2009:  Kenya Youth Peace Summit 2009
Click here to follow the events for this important summit gathering.
The conference brings together 200 young people to deliberate on peace issues, reflect on 2007 post-election violence in Kenya, and to develop youth led peace building processes among the youth.  It brings together delegates from 6 countries (Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, USA and DRC.)

LWF Youth Pre-Assembly Preparatory Group Defines Goals for Full Participantation.  The youth conference will take place 11-17 July 2010 in Dresden, Germany, just days before the LWF Eleventh Assembly in Stuttgart.
New NGO Bill in Ethiopia to Regulate Aid Agencies’ Operations. The Ethiopian Parliament endorsed a controversial bill on the work of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in the country. 
Lutheran Woman Chaparro to Head Venezuelan Church.  The new president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Venezuela (Iglesia Evangélica Luterana en Venezuela - IELV) Rev. Guillermina Chaparro says her election as the head of the church is an indication of the IELV’s steady growth, especially in the rural areas. 
Malaysian Bishop Rajah Prioritizes Interreligious Tolerance. At his installation as the head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malaysia (ELCM), Bishop Dr Solomon Rajah promised to forge greater inter-religious tolerance and understanding between the different faiths in the country.
LWF 2003 Assembly Coordinator Dies. The former coordinator of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Tenth Assembly, Rev. Arthur Leichnitz, passed away on 3 March at the age of 59 in Winnipeg, Canada, after a long illness.
Indonesian Theologian Sinaga Joins LWF Studies Department. Indonesian theologian Rev. Dr Martin Lukito Sinaga has assumed the position of Study Secretary for Theology and the Church at the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Department for Theology and Studies (DTS) for an initial two-year term.
Woman Elected Bishop of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany. Oberkirchenrat Ilse Junkermann of Stuttgart has become the first woman bishop of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EKM).
New Swedish Partnership with LWF Seeks to Strengthen Member Churches’ Capacity.  Mr Lars Hofgren from Sweden has joined the Department for Mission and Development (DMD) at the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) as coordinator of a comprehensive capacity development program with LWF member churches.

3.16.2009:  On March 15, the opening of the LWF Center Wittenberg and the installation of Hans Kasch as its director was celebrated.  Arden Haug, LWF-Germany was in attendance and offered a greeting at the reception. The combined membership in churches belonging to the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) last year rose by 141,792 to reach a global total just under 68.5 million (68,464,091).

1.7.2009:  ELCIC and CLWR Issue Appeal to Support Humanitarian Aid in Gaza
Winnipeg, 7 January 2009 -- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada's (ELCIC) Global Hunger and Development Appeal (GHDA), Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) and their partners in the region have taken action to address the humanitarian needs of the many Palestinians who are unable to escape the escalating violence in the Gaza Strip. A joint appeal has been issued to support immediate relief efforts.
