Ideas for your congregation or group

Radical Welcome: Embracing God, the Other, and the Spirit of Transformation

  • Hold a discussion in your circle, reading group, or congregation. Reflect on the book and the comments of the response panel on the blog.
  • Invite women who have e-mail to form an e-mail discussion group.
  • Focus a retreat on Radical Welcome: Embracing God, the Other, and the Spirit of Transformation.
  • Invite teen and young adult women to join your circle or reading group to discuss Radical Welcome and see what ideas they have for being fully welcomed into Women of the ELCA.
  • Give a copy of the book to your congregation’s college students and invite them to a discussion when they are home on a break or over the summer.
  • Work with your congregation’s education committee to organize an intergenerational (teens and adults) discussion of the book one Sunday a month for five months (one Sunday per section of the book) or every Sunday for eleven weeks (one per chapter, plus the introduction and conclusion).
  • Ask your pastor to consider a discussion of Radical Welcome with the entire congregation during Lent or to preach on the topic during the Pentecost season.
  • Ask your Church Council or visioning committee to read the book before they make plans for the future.
  • Invite a congregation with diversities other than those in your congregation to join you in discussing Radical Welcome and see what recommendations you come up with for growth. Find ways to be mutually supportive.
  • Buy a copy of Radical Welcome for your church library.
