Happy birthday, Katie!
Katharina von Bora Luther was born on January 29, 1499. Celebrate her birthday by using our program resource, A Bold Life of Faith. Katie was a wife, mother, farmer, brewmaster, innkeeper and more. In all that she did, she acted boldly on her faith in Jesus Christ. There’s a little bit of Katie in all of us. Use this resource to learn about Katie while learning more about yourself. We bring healing and wholeness
Casa Cornelia Law Center in San Diego provides pro bono legal services to immigrants. A $2,500 grant in 2011 from Women of the ELCA strengthened the center’s legal support of women enduring domestic violence.

Read about Casa Cornelia and 21 other domestic grants recipients in 2011, along with 10 international grantees. Not-for-profit organizations, both domestic and international, that support healing and wholeness for women of all ages are invited to seek support through a 2012 grant from Women of the ELCA. Applications are due February 15, 2012.

Apply now for scholarships
Scholarship application materials for the 2012-2013 school year are now available. Women who are members of ELCA congregations are invited to apply in one of four categories. Applications are due February 15, 2012.

Plan now for World Day of Prayer
This year’s World Day of Prayer service theme, “Let Justice Prevail,” is inspired by the guiding principles of the World Day of Prayer movement.

As the writers from Malaysia state, “We affirm that we are Christian neighbors in a multi-religious world. The WDP Committee of Malaysia offers the example of how we are Christian neighbors whose informed prayer prompts us to be partners with all who desire that justice will prevail.” The women of Malaysia ask us to come together in March as worshipping communities to think about justice and how we may approach it in an interfaith world. “Let Justice Prevail” will be celebrated all over the world on Friday, March 2, 2012.

If you have not participated in World Day of Prayer in the past, you are encouraged to seek out services in your area or perhaps hold one in your own congregation. Your worship experience can be enhanced by the many related resources created by the women of Malaysia. In addition to the 2012 worship bulletin, you can order a leader’s or planner’s guide, Spanish resources, children’s service, slides, posters, postcards and music. To order all 2012 materials, call Kutztown Publishing at their toll-free number: 1-800-523-8211.

Bold Connections took a break in the second half of 2011, but it’s back now!
