DAY 12: You Are Not Alone
There Are No Strangers Here
1 Kings 17:1-16
…I have commanded a widow there to feed you.
It's no accident when two strangers meet and care of each other's needs. Elijah and the widow in this story are strangers to each other and probably would never have met if God hadn't messed with their lives.
Both were hungry. Both were alone. When God brings the two together, it's no accident or bizarre coincidence. Elijah and the widow feed each other with food and hope. They strengthen each other's faith in the belief that God has something more in mind for people than just hunger, death, loneliness, or a pointless life.
You are one of 6,347,955,054 people living on this planet in this big universe. But know this: God created us to be together and care for each other. We are no strangers to God. How can we possibly live as strangers to each other?
When do I feel most alone?
Prayer:
Loving God and creator of all things, reassure me that you are always with me and that I am not alone in this world. Grant me the courage to treat all people with respect and care as brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen
Action step:
Do something today that will connect you with people you don't know, but who need you. Donate some money to the Youth Challenge² effort. Pray from someone you've never prayed for before. Send a letter of advocacy for others to a politician.
