DAY 17: Following Christ

Unsure What To Do? Follow The Light.

Isaiah 58:1-12 [13-14]

The Lord will guide you continually…

The power went out at our church just as choir was ending and people were arriving for confirmation. Suddenly we found ourselves without lights in pitch-black darkness. We stumbled around looking for candles. When at last the candlelight cut through the darkness, we found ourselves focused only on the light. Then as the light grew, we began to see who and what was around us. It was like how the light of Jesus shines through us and guides us as we live according to God's truth and justice. The darkest places began to disappear.

Our words and our actions are like lights that spread God's blessings and Word, and result in social justice. God, through one person or a congregation, can provide for many. As you follow the voice of Jesus, do your best to follow his example in your words, behaviors, and actions. When you're unsure about what to do, remember that God, through Jesus Christ, has shown us the way to live, to seek justice and mercy. God will provide for all your needs, as you trust God with your life.

How does my light shine beyond myself to the dark areas of my community, neighborhood, or world?

Prayer:
Guiding Lord, help me to trust you with all my life and to seek to be a light of justice and mercy for others. Amen

Action step:
Our next president can make the United States a global leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS at home and abroad. Go to www.AIDSVote.org and read the AIDSVote 2004 platform. If you are so inclined, let your light shine and click on the box to endorse the platform and send an email message in your name that expresses your support. You can also go the ELCA Web site and find information and suggestions for fighting AIDS.
