DAY 2: Compassion
Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It…
Exodus 3-4:17
So come, I will send you…
"Your mission, should you choose to accept it…" These were the opening lines of an old TV show (and two movies) called Mission Impossible. A group of secret agents were given a dangerous task that they weren't sure they could accomplish. Even so, in none of the episodes did they ever choose NOT to accept the mission, despite the fact there was a choice and danger involved.
Moses was given the task by God to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Egypt was one of the most powerful nations on earth at the time. It must have seemed like an impossible task! Would Moses choose to accept it? (A small hint: it wasn't an easy choice.)
Today God is sending you on a mission. How can God's love be in anyone who has wealth and resources yet refuses to help a brother or a sister in need,? (1 John 3:17) Your mission is to help others. Will you choose to accept this mission?
How can my faith in God move me to act lovingly towards others, even in the midst of overwhelming problems like global poverty?
Prayer:
Mighty God, strengthen us with your love and hope so that we will have the courage to accept the seemingly impossible mission of helping people in need. For with you, all things are possible. Amen
Action step:
Go to www.bread.org and find information on how to write to your Congressional Representative. Check out www.congress.org/congressorg/home/, enter your zip code, and find out who you can write to! Encourage them to support the Millennium Challenge Account, which funds ways to help stop the global crisis of hunger. Make you opinions and ideas known to them.
