DAY 37: Selflessness

Where's Your Head And Heart?

Colossians 3:[1-11], 12-17

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth…

If you've watched or participated in sports or any kind of competition, you've heard a coach say to a player, "What were you thinking?" or, "Where was your head at?" In practice, competitors prepare for every imaginable situation. In the real game, things change quickly and unexpectedly. Even with the best preparation for a game can still end in defeat.

Each of us competes with shortcomings in our life here on earth. Our list of sins and weaknesses seems endless. Fortunately, Christ erases our sins through his love and sacrifice for all people. We are made whole, new, and good in Christ. We are also given instructions for living. We are called to live a new life of compassion, humility, kindness, and patience modeled for us by Christ.

The transformation of this world, in our day and age, begins daily with our call to be like the servant Christ. However, worry, preoccupation with everyday stuff, and sin greet us every day when we awake. Christ overpowers these and all that separates us from his love, so that we might look beyond ourselves and be an example for those around us. Where is your head (and heart)?

What kinds of things distract me from living like you, Jesus?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to focus on your desires and not mine today. Help me be the example and servant of others you want me to be. Amen

Action step:
Perform one unexpected act of kindness for a co-worker, family member, neighbor, stranger, or friend.
