Leadership development

The leadership development ministry known as DAYLE was carefully designed to bless and empower gifted young people with a wide range of physical, cognitive, and emotional differences, so that they might grow as faithful, wise, and courageous witnesses.

DAYLE took place just prior to the ELCA Youth Gathering at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, July 19-22, 2009. Young people participating in DAYLE:

  • Were invited to claim a powerful hope centered on God’s life for us in the crucified and risen Jesus.
  • Learned about ways to take hope home and live it out in public discipleship and leadership.
  • Were invited into deeper participation in the ministries of their congregations, synods, and the churchwide organization.
  • Visited Gathering meeting and activity spaces and had an orientation before the ELCA Youth Gathering.

Hope

The DAYLE 2009 theme was HOPE. The daily biblical texts for the theme were selected by the young people of the Definitely Abled Advisory Committee:

Worship and singing at DAYLE.

The DAYLE program featured

  • The musical gifts and lively Christian witness of Dakota Roadin worship, song, and workshops.
  • Small group gatherings keyed to the theme, called HOPE groups, for youth/young adults and for adult companions, as well as cross-generational elective workshops.
  • A servant activity, orientation to the Gathering, and tours of the Morial Convention Center and the Louisiana Superdome.
