Check with your local library about resources listed below that you can use with your congregational group as they prepare to participate in the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event.

  • Language Matters (in development). This is a document that will help everyone coming to MYLE share in common language about what is ethnicity, what is race, what is culture, what is multicultural, and much more.
  • Race: The Power of an Illusion. DVD documentary (3 sessions, each approximately 60 minutes long) produced by California Newsreel. Go to the PBS Web site  for additional resources.
  • From Mambo to Hip Hop (released summer 2008). DVD documentary produced by City Lore, Inc. Inquire at http://www.citylore.org/ 
  • Understanding and Dismantling Racism: The Twenty-First Century Challenge to White America by Joseph Barndt. Fortress Press, 2007.
  • Living in Color: Embracing God’s Passion for Ethnic Diversity by Randy Woodley and John Dawson, 2004.
  • Working Toward Whiteness: How America’s Immigrants Became White by David R. Roediger, 2005.
  • Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? by Beverly Daniel Tatum.
