Call Process
How rostered leaders are assigned to service in the ELCA
Visit any one of the thousands of congregations or institutions of the ELCA and you will observe in its ordained and lay rostered leaders a common passion, strength and commitment to God’s mission and ministry.
But how are these leaders assigned to their calls in each specific congregation or ministry area? Through the call process of the ELCA.
For leaders completing seminary, the first step is to complete the Assignment Process.
For those who complete assignment and are serving their first call, they receive guided assistance through the ELCA’s program, First Call Theological Education.
During their career as a rostered leader, ministers and leaders may be called to a new congregation or institution. This process is called Mobility.
