Ash Wednesday

• Burn palms from the previous Passion Sunday or purchase ashes for use on Ash Wednesday. A small quantity of ashes mixed with a small amount of olive oil will go a long way.
• Arrange to simplify the worship environment during Lent.
• Order worship participation leaflets if used for the Ash Wednesday liturgy.

Midweek Services

• If a healing service will be held during Lent, become familiar with the new order provided in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Planning resources for can be found at Sundays and Seasons.com.

Passion Sunday

• Order palm branches. Additional palm branches or plants might be used as part of the worship environment that day.
• Determine how and where the procession with palms will take place. Prepare signs or recruit volunteers to help direct people. Determine how those with physical disabilities will participate in the procession or be seated ahead of time.
• Schedule a rehearsal of lectors in preparation for the passion reading.
