LUTHER COLLEGE SEEKS $100 MILLION

Luther College officials approved "Leadership for a New
Century," a $100 million capital campaign to end in 2005.
Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, is one of 28 colleges and
universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
"Leadership for a New Century" will be a three-component
campaign, said Jeffrey D. Baker, president of Luther.  The
"Investing in Students" component will seek $68 million in
endowment funds that will produce ongoing funding for
scholarships for students and endowed faculty chairs,
professorships and lectureships.  The "Building and
Technology" component will seek $25 million for computer
networking and technology and for construction of a
community arts building, a science building and a music
building addition.  The "Classroom Teaching and Learning"
component will seek $7 million to operate the college's
educational services and programs.  "At the dawn of a
century of great change and great opportunity in higher
education, we want Luther to take its next step forward as
one of the nation's leading liberal arts institutions," said
Baker.
