The Rev. Mark E. Narum was re-elected May 30 to serve a second six-year term as bishop of the Western North Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) during the Synod Assembly May 30-31 at the Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center in Bismarck, N.D.
Narum was re-elected on the first ballot with 263 votes of the 294 votes cast (221 votes were needed for election). All other nominees received three or fewer votes.
Narum graduated from Minot State University in Minot, N.D., and Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. Wartburg is one of eight ELCA seminaries. Prior to becoming bishop of the synod in 2008, Narum had served as pastor of Prairie Lutheran Parish -- a four-point parish consisting of four ELCA congregations in North Dakota -- since his ordination in 1999.
