Peace Not Walls Presentations and Discussions

  • Holy Land: Recent History and the Quest for Peace PowerPoint format outlines the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and describes how the ELCA and the ELCJHL are working for peace.  A script and user guide PDF Format are also availble.
  • New Jerusalem Study Guide PDF Format – Educate youth and adults about the history and current significance of Jerusalem with a new study guide written by Texas Lutheran University Professor Carolyn Schneider, who recently lived for six months in Bethlehem and East Jerusalem. Although the perspectives voiced are her own, the study was developed in collaboration with Bishop Munib Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and the ELCA Peace Not Walls team.
  • A Tale of Two Cities – This bible study looks at the need for peace in the region through the lens of the two cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Presentations

  • West Bank Barrier PowerPoint format - This presentation starts by showing the two basic forms of the West Bank Barrier: as a fence matrix and as a wall of concrete slabs. It then describes the effects of the Barrier on Palestinian movement, using the Arab city of Qalqiliya as an example. It also presents the ICJ's advisory opinion of the Barrier issued in July 2004.   • Fragmentation of the West Bank PowerPoint format - This presentation starts by deals with the continuing fragmentation of the West Bank. It discusses the effects of the Oslo Peace Accords, closures, the road system, and Israeli land designation in the West Bank on the continuity of Palestinian land. (August 2007)
  • Closures in the West Bank PowerPoint format - This presentation briefly describes the rationale behind closures and then outlines the different types used in the West Bank.
