Walking with Our Brothers and Sisters of the ELCJHL
University of Michigan Campus Ministry: February 20-March 2, 2009
An eight-member delegation from Lord of Light Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Michigan traveled to Jordan, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories to accompany our brothers and sisters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL). Generous financial assistance from members of Lord of Light Lutheran Church made it possible for all who desired to participate in this trip. In addition, we were able to present financial gifts, Michigan Lutherans t-shirts, LOL tote bags and CDs of the Jazz Mass to each ELCJHL congregation.
Notable Moments:
- Having Chelsea Mathis, UM '08, serving with the ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program be our primary guide throughout our pilgrimage
- Simultaneous worship via Skype between Bethlehem, the West Bank and Lord of Light Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor
- Visiting families in the village of At-Tuwani and Bethlehem
- Actually going through Qalandia checkpoint (the main checkpoint between Bethlehem and Jerusalem
