Grants Process
The ELCA Domestic Hunger Grant Program Funds are derived from the
ELCA World Hunger Program. The Community Development Services Program in the Program Unit for Congregational Synodical Mission provides administrative coordination for the grants process.
We anticipate the 2013 grants process will follow this cycle:
- Deadline for submitting electronic application and supporting documents: July 9, 2012.
- Notifications and checks mailed to grant recipients between February and March 2013
In addition to Congregational Synodical Mission staff serving under the Domestic Hunger Grant Program, there are other units and departments in the ELCA Churchwide offices who participate in the grants screening and allocation process, including the Multicultural Ministries, Women of the ELCA, Youth Gathering, etc.
Over a dozen churchwide representatives from these units and one representative from Lutheran Immigration and Refugee services in Baltimore, Maryland, form the grants committee, which meets in November to read and review each application carefully. The committee makes recommendations for funding in conjunction with each synod’s prioritization of grants submitted within the synod and its comments about each applicant. The committee agrees on which proposals to fund and checks are mailed to grant recipients in February-March 2013.
