Partner Agency Response

Action by Churches Together (ACT) International is a global alliance of churches and related agencies working to save lives and support communities in emergencies worldwide.

The links below provide additional information how ACT is responding, and show us how our disaster response dollars are making a difference in people's lives.

GOMA, DR CONGO, 5 November 2008--The security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo remains precarious and aid groups do not yet know what effect the most recent violence will have on the latest cease fire or humanitarian situation.

GENEVA, 3 November 2008--Despite the lack of humanitarian access, several ACT members have been able to deliver some initial assistance to communities displaced by the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. ACT members distributed a 14-day food ration and non-food items to 150 households in the Sasha IDP camp last week, and a stock of medicines were delivered to a health centre in the Minova area. Additionally, a therapeutic feeding centre has continued to assist 90 children throughout the fighting.

GOMA, NORTH KIVU, DRC, 30 October 2008--Looted shops and dead bodies on the pavements is what aid workers in Goma, North Kivu province found this morning. "It has been a night of horror, but Goma is quiet now," says aid workers from ACT International. Thousands have sought refuge as the rebel leader General Laurent Nkunda has moved towards the city. Emergency work is paralyzed after aid workers themselves have been withdrawn from the field for security reasons.
