Planned Giving

Do you have a will to end hunger?

Your gift to ELCA World Hunger will change lives—today, tomorrow, and for future generations. You can offer a powerful witness by including a gift to help people who are hungry when you prepare your will or plan your finances in retirement. Thank you for prayerfully considering the needs of neighbors as you plan your financial future and legacy.

Bequests from your estate

Through your will you can provide lasting witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ministries of this church that have been important to you during your life. Your will can be used to provide a gift to ELCA World Hunger or any ministry of this church. Learn more.

When naming ELCA World Hunger in your will, please use the following language to direct a specific amount or a percentage of your estate’s residual value to our ministry:

“The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a Minnesota nonprofit corporation, c/o The ELCA Foundation, located at 8765 West Higgins Road, Chicago, Illinois 60631, for the benefit of ELCA World Hunger”

You may also plan for a gift to ELCA World Hunger by changing the beneficiary of your policy or transferring the ownership of a cash value life insurance policy. Learn more.

Additional vehicles for giving

Cash gifts make a life-changing difference today for people who are hungry and maximize your charitable deduction. Many additional vehicles for charitable giving may help you achieve your personal financial goals while supporting ministry.

The IRA rollover enjoyed by many charitable donors in 2006 and 2007 has been extended for 2008 and 2009. If you meet the requirements, you can support ELCA World Hunger directly from your IRA without recognizing the distribution as income on your tax return. Learn more.

Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, and mutual funds) can allow you to take a deduction for the current market value on the date of the gift and avoid capital gains tax. Gifts of real estate will allow you to receive the maximum tax deduction allowed by law, bypass capital gain tax, provide you an opportunity to establish a gift that provides an income for life, and make a substantial donation for ministry. Learn more.

Life income agreements, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts can allow you to receive income while you are living and then provide a gift to support ministry. Learn more.
