Biseny Akena and her family fled their home of Amuca, Uganda, 20 years ago when a long-simmering conflict flared into war. But now that peace has prevailed, people like Biseny and her family are finally able to go back home.
Bisney wasn't sure what to expect when she returned. Thanks to your generous gifts to ELCA World Hunger, a new water well and a supply of seed were there waiting for her.

Advocate for change
Governments and elected officials have an important role to play in addressing hunger and poverty. Sign up for "Why the Federal Budget Matters," a new email campaign from the ELCA eAdvocacy Network, and learn about the federal budget debate. Throughout the 112th Congressional Session, you'll hear about the concerns of people affected by potential federal budget cuts and how you can speak up on behalf of those who are poor and vulnerable.

-
Zion Lutheran Church in Leola, Penn., found a fun and creative way to fight hunger. All summer long, members of the congregation will stop by a local art studio to paint and decorate their own ceramic bowls. The one-of-a-kind bowls will be used for an "Empty Bowls, Open Hearts" dinner to raise funds for ELCA World Hunger and a local food bank. Thanks for the great idea!
