Hunger Education

Hunger Education

Education is the tool ELCA World Hunger uses to help raise the church’s awareness of the root causes of and solutions to global hunger and poverty. Our education programs and resources engage ELCA members, congregations, synods, affiliated ministries and ecumenical partners and invite them to respond in concrete ways.

Check out the resources below to see how ELCA World Hunger promotes hunger education throughout the church. Which one of these resources might work in your synod or congregation?

Taking Root Curriculum
Taking Root: Hunger Causes, Hunger Hopes is a complete curriculum for your congregation. The curriculum includes five sessions each for four different age groups: kindergarten-grade 2, grades 3–6, grades 7–9 (junior high), and grades 10–12 (senior high). All age groups have parallel content, so the biblical texts and themes, children's literature, and many projects and activities are the same among the age levels.

Taking Root will help you:

  • Explore biblical texts that envision a world without hunger
  • Discover steps that can transform that image into reality
  • Challenge students to imagine a better world
  • Share new books and ideas
