Only 46% of people in Haiti have safe water to drink and use. And to get the water they have to carry it in pails for a long way to use it at home.
Much of Haiti's population cannot read or write. The most important source of news is radio.
More than 2/3 of Haiti's people live in rural areas - but only 20% of Haiti's land can be cultivated (and used for farming.)
It was estimated in 2000 that over 43% of the Haitian population was under the age of 15!
Along Haiti's coast you will find flat plains, but mountains make up about half of the country.
