Meet Biseny

Biseny Akena and her family have come home to Amuca, Uganda, after years away. They fled for safety 20 years ago when a long-simmering conflict flared into war, but now that peace has prevailed, people like Biseny and her family are finally able to go back and start to pick up their lives where they left off so many years ago.
Biseny and her family were among the first to come back to Amuca and start rebuilding homes and planting crops—but they didn’t have to face that back-breaking work alone. Thanks to your generous gifts to ELCA World Hunger, a deep well has been installed in Amuca, and several of her neighbors have been trained to maintain the well. Agricultural training, a supply of seed, and their own determination and hard work give Biseny and the others hope for a good harvest.
After decades of war, Biseny and her neighbors in the village of Amuca have returned to plant their crops in peace once more. ELCA World Hunger is helping them harvest a bumper crop of hope for a brighter future.
