A Note of Thanks
From the Covalence Archives
by Gail Phillips Bucher
Many thanks to the Rev. George Koch, for many years the Editor of Covalence and its predecessor bulletin, The Works. We appreciate his many roles on the Steering Committee of the ELCA Alliance for Faith, Science and Technology--editor, conference organizer, discussion leader, friend and colleague.
I came to know George in 1995 while he was Lutheran Campus Pastor at Syracuse University. He organized the science and religion conference, “Re‑discovering the Cosmos,” held in conjunction with the Ecumenical Roundtable on Science, Technology and the Church at Syracuse University in the summer of 1997. Seemingly single-handed he handled all the conference details including picking us up at the airport. Later when George was Deployed Director for Campus Ministry for the ELCA (1998-2004), he was instrumental in creating the ELCA website on science and faith. He also was one of the conveners of the Lutheran Center Work Group, an internal inter-unit group at the ELCA in Chicago that discusses issues of faith, science and the church.
As we say farewell to George as Editor, we know that we will have difficulty in finding someone who is as passionate about furthering the faith and science dialog through the written word in Covalence as he has been. We wish George well as Interim Associate Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and look forward his articles from time to time in future issues of Covalence. Until a new editor is identified, the Alliance Steering Committee will serve as the Editorial Committee for Covalence.
