Read the adopted social message "People Living with Disabilities" and tell others about the message. Encourage them to visit this Web site. Get to know people with disabilities. Learn more about disabilities ministries and about issues facing disabled people both in your congregation and the larger church; in your local community, state, territory, or commonwealth and in the United States as a whole. Examine your own attitudes about and behavior toward people with disabilities and the attitudes and behavior of people around you. Learn more about the work of Lutheran Social Ministry Organizations (SMOs) with disabled people, especially those SMOs near you. Learn more about the work of disability rights organizations in civil society.

Help Implement the Message
Help raise awareness of the message even further, and also help implement the letter and the spirit of the message in your congregation, synod and community. As a citizen, you can also become involved in public policy issues about disabilities in your state, nationally and in your own city, town or school district. This might happen through Lutheran public policy offices in your state or in Washington, D.C., through disability rights organizations in civil society, or on your own initiative.
