Youth Violence

ELCA Churchwide Assembly Action CA99.03.05

Passed by the 1999 Churchwide Assembly in Denver, Colorado.

Resolved
To thank the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod for raising before us the grave social concern of youth violence;

To express the deep concern of this Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for the youth of our world, "especially those at risk from racism, sexism, hunger, violence, abuse, drugs, and poverty, including those who are in prison";

To acknowledge the ongoing work of ELCA churchwide units, synods, congregations, agencies and institutions, and parachurch organizations which support young people, promote healthy asset-building activities and relationships, address those issues which place youth at risk, and

To encourage individuals, families, Lutheran youth organizations, and congregations of this church to utilize existing ELCA resources to support study leading to local initiatives.
