Passed by the 2001 ELCA Church Council.

Resolved
To reaffirm the action taken by this council in November 2000 in response to the conflict in the Middle East;

To receive the report of actions taken by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since November 2000 and to commend the efforts of the presiding bishop of this church, its staff, and other partners in support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and Palestine;

To request that the Division for Global Mission, the Division for Church in Society, and other partners strengthen efforts and financial resources committed to education and advocacy programs;

To request the presiding bishop to communicate this church's ongoing solidarity and concern to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and Palestine and to continue to address concerns to President George W. Bush, members of Congress, and other public officials as he deems appropriate; and finally

To request synodical bishops, pastors, and other leaders to encourage participation in the ongoing Ecumenical Prayer Vigil; utilize educational and advocacy resources available through the ELCA churchwide office; highlight concerns about the situation in the Middle East at synod assemblies and other events; and communicate these concerns through other synodical channels.
