Military Action on the Island of Vieques

Resolved
To receive the report of the Division for Church in Society related to the work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America related to military activity on the island of Vieques and the current status of this issue;
To reaffirm the call of the 2001 Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for the immediate cessation of all military activity on the island of Vieques by United States forces as well as those of NATO and all other nations; the decontamination of island, and the prompt return of the island to its people;
To direct the Division for Church in Society, through the Lutheran Office for Governmental Affairs, to continue to provide both advocacy for and information about this issue; and
To request that the secretary of this church provide the information [provided] as the report of the Division for Church in Society to the 2003 Churchwide Assembly.
