Study Materials on Abortion

Passed by the 2006 ELCA Church Council.

Resolved
To thank the Pacifica Synod for encouraging congregations to study the social statement on abortion and for its concern for unresolved issues in that social statement;

To decline to initiate a formal study on the unresolved issues in the social statement on abortion due to currently scheduled study projects;

To call upon the Journal of Lutheran Ethics to devote a future issue to diverse perspectives on abortion and unresolved issues in the social statement, and to communicate to the Pacifica Synod when that issue will appear so that the synod can promote it among its congregations;

To encourage congregations to study the social statement on abortion and draw upon the resource Using the Social Statement on Abortion in their deliberation; and

To request that the secretary of this church inform the synod of this action.
