Resolved
To thank the Northern Illinois Synod for calling attention to the growing seriousness of name-calling, bullying, and violence in this country’s schools, and to commit this church to join with the Northern Illinois Synod to work to ameliorate this problem;
To call on the Vocation and Education unit, in collaboration with the Church in Society and Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission units, to develop further its listing on resources on this topic and to make them available through the Internet, Seeds for the Parish, and other means;
To refer the resolution to the interunit team for the Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence and call upon this interunit team to explore how this concern can be integrated into the ELCA’s participation in the Decade and into the esources of the program units of this church;
To refer the resolution to the ELCA Task Force on Education to consider as it prepares a proposed social statement for possible consideration at the 2007 Churchwide Assembly; and
To decline to set aside a “Sunday each year with the special emphasis of encouraging respect for all of God’s children, whoever they may be.”
