- Julian Gordy opened with devotions.
- The task force went over the agenda and reacquainted themselves.
- Kaari Reierson summarized the May meeting.
- Susan Howley director of public policy for the National Center for
Victims of Crime presented on victim perspectives in criminal justice.
- The task force discussed the presentation and Jane Otte led the task
force in a World Café on victims issues in the work of the task force.
- Gordon Bazemore of Florida Atlantic University presented on restorative
justice.
- The task force, led by Dawn Bartusch, engaged in discussion of what we
expect from the criminal justice system.
- Jane Otte presented on faith perspectives and the criminal justice
system.
- The task force discussed theological themes in criminal justice.
Saturday, October 24, 2009
- The task force chose dates for the meetings after the February 2010
meeting: September 17–18,
2010, April 1–2, 2011, and
October 21–22, 2011.
- Cathy Ryan, the director of Maryville Academy, presented on
restorative justice and juvenile justice. Sally Wolfe and Gordon
Bazemore joined in a discussion on restorative justice.
- The task force spent time discussing the assigned readings.
- John Stumme presented on government and on punishment.
- The task force discussed proposed topics for the study document, as
well as what topics needed more attention.
- Oliver Brown closed with devotion.
