  • Julian Gordy opened with devotions.
  • The task force went over the agenda and reacquainted themselves.
  • Kaari Reierson summarized the May meeting.
  • Susan Howley director of public policy for the National Center for Victims of Crime presented on victim perspectives in criminal justice.
  • The task force discussed the presentation and Jane Otte led the task force in a World Café on victims issues in the work of the task force.
  • Gordon Bazemore of Florida Atlantic University presented on restorative justice.
  • The task force, led by Dawn Bartusch, engaged in discussion of what we expect from the criminal justice system.
  • Jane Otte presented on faith perspectives and the criminal justice system.
  • The task force discussed theological themes in criminal justice.

Saturday, October 24, 2009

  • The task force chose dates for the meetings after the February 2010 meeting: September 1718, 2010, April 12, 2011, and October 2122, 2011.
  • Cathy Ryan, the director of Maryville Academy, presented on restorative justice and juvenile justice. Sally Wolfe and Gordon Bazemore joined in a discussion on restorative justice.
  • The task force spent time discussing the assigned readings.
  • John Stumme presented on government and on punishment.
  • The task force discussed proposed topics for the study document, as well as what topics needed more attention.
  • Oliver Brown closed with devotion.
