As immigrant Lutherans became better established in Midwestern communities, more elaborate structures were erected. Taller steeples and larger sanctuaries demonstrate the financial success of the immigrants, as well as their increasing numbers, both Lutherans newly arrived from the old country, and those born in the new land.
