Cuyler English Evangelical Lutheran Church
Cuyler English Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized September 30, 1900 as a member of the Northern Illinois Synod of the General Synod. It was located at the corner of Cuyler Ave. and Lincoln St.
Work began in the spring of 1900 to organize Lutherans in the Cuyler and Gross Park neighborhoods of Chicago by Rev. C.G. Stacy. Cuyler was organized in September and purchased a chapel from a Methodist congregation. This building was rededicated on November 25, 1900.
The Gross Park mission was organized as St. Andrew's English Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1901. Rev. Stacy concentrated his efforts on Cuyler after that congregation was organized.
In 1912, as both mission congregations were struggling, Cuyler and St. Andrew's merged on the first of September to form the English Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension.
