September 11, Ten Years Later
September 11, 2001, Noon.
We had watched in horror from our 16th floor office windows as both towers lit up, then fell into a cloud of smoke and ash. We are now in the chapel of the Interchurch Center in Morningside Heights, and I am facing hundreds who have gathered to pray. For the previous hour we had been doing what millions did throughout the metropolis, trying to track down loved ones in lower Manhattan. Now the chapel is filled with people not knowing their fate. Open letter to Lutheran CORE (A personal perspective of one who attended the meeting) October 12, 2009
Are you serious? I attended your conference in Indiana because my heart is with you and I honor and respect your significant place in the fabric of the flawed, beautiful tapestry which makes up the ELCA. Chapter One: Eyewitness
On the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. This is always a tender time for me. It was a time of unspeakable suffering, fear and sadness. Luke 1: 1-4
9-11-01: “At around 9am. This morning we noticed smoke coming from the south as we looked out the window of our office, in the midst of a meeting. Soon the horrible news began to arrive. Most of the staff was in for a staff meeting. We began to do what people throughout the metropolitan area are doing, trying to track down loved ones who work in lower Manhattan. Gary Mills of our staff finally heard from a nephew who works on the 86th floor of the South Building of the World Trade Center. My wife, Janet was turned aside at the George Washington Bridge, on her way to a meeting in the area of the World Trade Center. And so it has gone. continue
