Gifts of Appreciated Securities (stocks, bonds, and mutual funds)

Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, and mutual funds) are a great way for you to give to the ministries of the church.
One gift to many ministriesBy transferring securities into an ELCA account through the ELCA Foundation, you will be able to make multiple gifts to various ministries of this church. One transaction can distribute gifts in your name to your congregation, your synod, and churchwide ministries. A gift of securities can also be used to fund a
planned gift.
Tax advantages
You are eligible to take a deduction for the current market value on the date of the gift and avoid tax on capital gain. In order to take a deduction for gifts of securities at their current value, you must have owned the securities for at least one year and a day. Such gifts are deductible up to 30 percent of their adjusted gross income in the year of the gift.
