Mission History
Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Central African Republic
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Central African Republic (ELC-RCA) began as a Lutheran Mission through the work of the American Mission in the District of Baboua, Central African Republic in 1930. At that time, it was a unit of the Central Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cameroon. In 1973 it became independent, established a head office in Baboua in the province of Nana-Mambere, and took the name the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Central African Republic. In 1990 the head office was relocated to Bouar town in order to facilitate better communication and administration of the church.
