The Luther Decade

The Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) began The Luther Decade in 2008 to commemorate the years leading up to 2017, the year considered to be the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.  The goal is to provide a chance for people throughout the world to explore the impact of the Reformation then as well as what it means to live as a reforming church today.

Each year leading up to 2017 has themes with events, study tours and other highlights.

The Decade began in Lutherstadt Wittenberg on September 21, 2008, with a festival worship service that featured the Rev. Mark S. Hanson, ELCA presiding bishop and then Lutheran World Federation President, as the preacher.
