Mission History

Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovenia

The Evangelical Church in Slovenia belonging to the Augsburg denomination was suppressed during the Counter-Reformation period. It was preserved through two small parishes (Surd and Nemesca) in the eastern part of the country which had been under Hungarian administration. After the issue of the Proclamation of Tolerance in the East of Slovenia (Prekmurje), the protestant parishes were gradually re-established, mainly due to the Prekmurje priests who endeavored to encourage the development of literature as well as education. Today the Evangelical Church in Slovenia is organized according to the Act issued in 1977.
