Biology
St. Olaf requests applications for an instructor in biology to teach Evolution and Diversity Course (Biology 126) in Spring, 2010. In this core course, students study the mechanisms of evolution, the evolutionary history of biological diversity, and the diversity of life. The structure and function of organisms are compared within an ecological/evolutionary context. Key adaptations to survival are examined among organisms from bacteria and protists to plants, fungi, and animals. Labs investigate population genetics, phylogeny, form, and behavior of selected organisms and provide experience in experimental design and scientific writing. Students attend lectures plus one 2.5-hour laboratory per week. Applicants should have completed their Ph.D. (or be close). The Department of English seeks an individual with teaching and scholarly expertise in global literatures in English and twentieth and twenty-first century British literature. The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science seeks a person with interest and expertise in both secondary mathematics education and mathematics. Youth Director
Seeking an energetic and creative part-time Youth Director to join our staff. The Director will build upon and strengthen a youth program which currently involves over 50 youth who participate in small groups, Sunday school, Breakfast Club and Sunday night youth group. They will be responsible for building relationships with the youth and their friends, infusing energy and creativity into all youth programs and creating structure and continuity within all programs of the senior high ministry. Coordinator of Faith Formation
Seeking a part-time (30 hours/week) Coordinator of Faith Formation to plan, coordinate and develop activities to foster the formation of faith and spiritual growth for all generations of the congregation encompassing youth, family and senior programming. Specific responsibilities include planning, coordinating and supervising educational programs for children, youth and adults; recruit and train teachers, leaders and assistants to fulfill objectives for youth and adult programs; coordinate and develop annual budgets; support and approve new programs to nourish spiritual formation and enrichment across all generations of the congregation. The position reports to the Pastor and will act as the Pastor’s liaison to lay-led ministry teams and individuals as needed. Applicants should be familiar with, or willing to learn, the traditions and teachings of the Lutheran Church; have experience with program development and administration in a church or faith-based organization; have successfully developed and implemented programs to support the ministry of Christian education; possess a degree in education or work experience that reflects appropriate preparation for the position.
