Opportunities in 2009

Global Events
Through global events like the Global Mission Event and the Global Formation Event, ELCA members receive the gifts of Christians and churches around the world.

Their goal is to equip participants to deepen their understanding of the accompaniment methodology for mission, which many global Lutheran church bodies seek to practice.

2009 global event opportunities include:

  • The International Companion Program, which receives the gifts of young people from companion churches through collaboration with the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering. In 2009, the program will connect global teens with their ELCA Companion Synods. For more information on how to participate, contact Marie.Cortez@elca.org
  • Global Formation Events are regional events that delve deeply into accompaniment, helping congregational teams build skills they need to be an effective part of God’s mission, globally and locally.
    - Northwest and Southwest Washington Synods Global Formation Event November 13-14, 2009, Olympia WA
  • More GFEs are in the works. Check back for dates and places!
  • The next ELCA Global Mission Event will take place in 2010.

Global Teens
Global teens learned from one another during the 2006 International Guest Program. A month-long stay in ELCA congregations, including a week at the ELCA Youth Gathering, ensured that 88 youth from 17 countries could share the gifts of their culture and church with new friends. In 2009, the program will connect global teens with their ELCA Companion Synods. For more information on how to participate, contact Marie.Cortez@elca.org.
