Tonight, going hungry just isn't an option in this small prairie city. Neither are sporks. That's because every single Thursday members of our church organize a banquet, feeding homeless people on real china, with real silverware, and even real flowers for the tables. A New Career and a Fresh Start

To go from needing help to helping others in just four weeks is nothing short of a miracle. But that's what our members are making possible for low-income nurse's-aide students, who go on to work in health care facilities or to train as LPNs or RNs. Starting with a $5,000 seed grant in 2004, we offer this free nurse's-aide training so that people can not only take care of themselves, they can also care for others.    Read more

In a country where over 70% of women are illiterate, any kind of schooling is cause for celebration. Here in Yeumbeul — and across sub-Saharan Africa — the math and writing classes we teach can mean the difference between surviving and starting your own business. 210 children experience thanksgiving.
In the sprawling shantytowns of this South American city, skinned knees are nothing to cry about. Not when one in four children knows chronic hunger pangs. That's why the members of our church are helping ensure children here receive their daily bread. No word if cranberry sauce and stuffing come with it. But prayers of thanks are definitely offered. When Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, our first reaction was shock. Our second was to grab a hammer. With over 18,500 volunteers and $27 million in donations, about the only thing we've yet to rebuild there is an ark.    Read more

For the working poor in this Midwestern city, getting health care can be painful in itself. Their employers don't provide insurance, yet their meager incomes disqualify them from receiving government aid. That's why the free clinic our members run is such a godsend. Poor people get the care they need -- without having to choose between the doctor and the grocery store.    Read more
